Mrs Carmichael was very gentle and reassuring both when she broke the news of my cancer and in the subsequent appointments. Her reassurance and guidance concerning my treatment and the options available to me enabled me to make a well informed decision to have an autologous latissimus dorsi flap breast reconstruction. I was able to allow her some leeway with regard to the use of a small implant in my reconstruction if necessary as she had explained the details of the operation to me so carefully that I was completely confident that her experience and confidence in the procedure would give me the best result.

I can't express how wonderful professor Carmichael and her team were this last week. I felt instantly at ease, listened to, informed and thoroughly cared for. Within an hour and a half of consultations and and tests I felt life could get back on track..I count myself blessed and thankful for negative results. There is nothing I could suggest to improve either professor Carmichaels natural affinity with those in need or her professionalism. Grateful thanks, keep up the marvellous work.

Mrs Carmichael was very kind to me when I first met her. I had breast cancer and she explained everything that would happen when she operated. She said she would do her very best for me and she did. She was sympathetic and very caring. I went back to see her today, two weeks after my operation and she had done her very best for me. I would highly recommend her to anyone going through the same health problems as me. I would also like to say how professional, caring and helpful the whole team are at Burton on Trent Breast Care Unit. There is a lot of negativity about the NHS but my god people don’t realise what a treasure we have in this country.

Mrs Carmichael is such a caring, professional and skilled surgeon. At all times before, during and after my surgery I was treated with care and respect. During this frightening time for myself and my family I always knew I was in good honest hands, therefore able to focus on the positives rather than worrying about the “what ifs”. All the NHS staff I have encountered along the way have been truly amazing. I am so grateful to have been lucky enough to have been treated at Queens hospital at Burton. Mrs Carmichael said it was her privilege to have helped me, what a lovely lady - thank you.

I would like to thank Professor Carmichael for the professionalism, understanding and compassion she showed when I was referred to her by my GP for a breast problem. As it turned out there was no need for any treatment but I am grateful for the efficiency and friendliness that everybody showed which allayed my anxiety considerably, before I was given my result.
